Olof Palmebrug, Bergen op Zoom (NL)

The municipality of Bergen op Zoom has awarded a private tender for the renovation of the Olof Palmebrug to Van Ginkel Groep. The renovation consisted mainly of pre-treating and preserving steel surfaces.

The Olof Palmebrug is located on the Getrudisboulevard and stands over the Markiezaatweg in the municipality of Bergen op Zoom. The bridge has a combined steel/concrete deck of approximately 56 by 16 meters. The deck is connected with 12 steel cables to the pylons of 27 meters high. On the bridge, there are two lanes, a bicycle path on both sides and a footpath.

The scope of the work was, broadly speaking, the blasting and coating of:

• Steel cables
• The main supporting structure
• The bridge’s name
• Fasteners
• Handrails

By organizing appropriate traffic measures, the bridge was able to remain open to traffic during the work.
