Acquisition Petersen Metaalbescherming from Harderwijk: growing stronger together

Van Ginkel Groep partially takes over Petersen Metaalbescherming from Harderwijk. After the transaction, Leonie Petersen will remain actively involved in the organization with 25% of the shares. The acquisition fits within the growth strategy of both companies. This way, they create opportunities to expand their services and their market and to create more growth opportunities for their employees. That’s something that makes both companies stronger together.

Van Ginkel Groep: Quality works

Van Ginkel Groep is a mobile blasting and coating company and in the last 50 years, it has grown into a company with 120 employees divided over an office in Heteren and workshops in Valburg and on the Maasvlakte. Van Ginkel Groep has clients in construction, infrastructure and offshore.

Petersen Metaalbescherming: the best service in blasting, metallizing and spraying

Petersen Metaalbescherming from Harderwijk, founded in 1987 by Henk Petersen, has been known for more than 35 years for quality, transparency and innovation. Spread over ten halls of 10,000 m2, 30 professionals work daily on metal protection solutions for customers from various industries. The main sectors in which Petersen is active are the (petro)chemical industry, machine factories, the dredging industry and the infrastructure sector.

Acquisition fits within ambitious growth strategy

André van Ginkel, director of the Van Ginkel Groep: “We have an ambitious growth strategy and an acquisition fits within that strategy. The advantage of an acquisition is that we have “a moving train” and we don’t have to build something new. It just has to fit. Marktlink  brought us into contact with Petersen and it fits surprisingly well: our people, our customers, our activities, our dreams and our business philosophy are well aligned. I believe that a shared future will make us stronger.”

Shared core values bring Petersen and Van Ginkel together

The two companies share their core values. Van Ginkel Groep is also known for its quality and integrity. Both companies go through fire and water for their people and pride themselves on their ability to serve their customers with innovative solutions.

The power of the family business

Leonie Petersen joined Petersen Metaalbescherming in 2017, which was founded by her father. She will remain as director and shareholder after the takeover. Leonie has always admired the strategy of family businesses: “I like their long-term focus. You build a future together and you don’t go for the short profit, which can be fun, but the most important thing is that you continue the company well together. We do this with a flat organization and a permanent workforce that has little turnover and thus benefits that family feeling. And then it’s very nice to have a company like Van Ginkel next to you with whom you share that feeling from the very first moment. Especially if that feeling gets confirmed when you start working together. We have already done joint projects during the takeover, because at the time we already saw that commercial overlap.”

Growth opportunities through expansion of services and active acquisition

This overlap will only offer more opportunities in the future. Leonie: “There are growth opportunities in the field of a more active acquisition policy and expanding the current range of services, for example by carrying out activities on location. With Van Ginkel Groep, these activities can be intensified and we can expand our services in, among others, the infrastructure sector, for governments and in the offshore industry. The aim of this acquisition is that we become stronger together, because together we can be of better service for each other and for our customers.”

‘We have an ambitious growth strategy and the acquisition of Petersen Metaalbescherming fits within that strategy.’
